Privacy Policy

The short version
FocusTube collects the minimum data needed to classify your YouTube videos and show you your watching patterns. We don't sell your data. We don't use it for ads. We don't track you outside YouTube.
What we collect
Account information
Your email address and authentication details. Used to identify your account, sync settings across devices, and send transactional emails (verification, password reset, billing).
Goals and pitfalls
What you tell us you're trying to achieve on YouTube and what pulls you off track. This is sent to AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) to classify each video you watch as productive, neutral, or distracting based on your specific goals.
YouTube watch data
When you watch a YouTube video with the extension active, we collect: video title, channel name, video URL, watch duration, time of day, and the classification result. We do not collect video content, comments, likes, subscriptions, or any activity outside YouTube.
Settings and preferences
Your blocked channels, daily limits, focus windows, and display preferences. Synced across devices.
Payment information
Handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We receive your subscription status and billing email from Stripe.
Email delivery (Resend)
We use Resend to send transactional emails: account verification, password resets, and billing notifications. Resend processes your email address on our behalf. They do not use it for any other purpose. resend.com/legal/privacy-policy
Analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog to understand how FocusTube is used - page views, button clicks, and feature usage. Data is anonymised and hosted in the EU. PostHog does not have access to your watch data, goals, or YouTube activity. posthog.com/privacy
How we use it
- · Classify videos against your goals (via Anthropic Claude and OpenAI)
- · Power your dashboard: focus score, watch time breakdown, channel stats
- · Enforce your settings: nudges, blocks, daily limits, focus windows
- · Send account emails: verification, password reset, billing receipts
- · Improve classification accuracy over time (aggregate, anonymised patterns only)
What we send to AI providers
Video metadata only: title, channel name, and your goals/pitfalls. We do not send your email, watch history, or any personal identifiers to AI providers. Each classification request is stateless - the AI providers do not store your data or build a profile of you.
What we don't do
- · Sell or share your personal data with third parties
- · Use your data for advertising or marketing to third parties
- · Track your browsing outside YouTube
- · Access your YouTube account, subscriptions, or Google data
- · Build advertising profiles
Chrome extension permissions
storage - Save your settings and auth session locally so the extension works between browser restarts.
tabs - Detect when you're on YouTube so the extension activates. We don't read or track any other tabs.
Cookies
FocusTube uses a single authentication cookie managed by Supabase to keep you logged in. No tracking cookies. No analytics cookies. No third-party cookies.
Data retention
- Watch history: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
- Account data (email, goals, settings): Retained until you delete your account.
- Payment data: Managed by Stripe under their retention policy.
To delete your account and all associated data, email support@focustube.co.uk.
Your rights
You can request a copy of all data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely. Email support@focustube.co.uk and we'll respond within 14 days.
If you're in the UK or EU, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
FocusTube is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll email you.
